RESHAPED BODY
– HUMAN BODY AUGMENTATION FOR LIVE IN ORBIT IN 2030
KEY WORDS:
future design, speculative design, body augmentation, outer space
The designs are intended to augment the human body and adapt it to life in orbit by the year 2030. The collaboration with Futurity Systems has resulted in the creation of designs and concepts that accompany a sci-fi article titled "Reshaped Body" in inTENSE magazine from the future #2/2030. The article explores the possibility of adapting the human body to the extreme conditions of outer space, and the designs are the product of using AI technology to create synthographs of body augmentations.
Humans were designed to live on planet Earth, but as we explore beyond its surface, our bodies need to adapt to extreme conditions such as microgravity, lack of sunlight and water, cosmic radiation, variable pressure, non-vertical body position, and sensory monotony. To solve this problem, temporary or permanent transformations of the body may be necessary. Augmenting the space traveler's or space settler's body can be achieved through dissolvable subcutaneous implants, e- kinesiology tapes, inflatable compression garments, e-tattoos, and biosensors. These devices monitor and adjust physiological data such as blood count, electromyography, body hydration and oxygenation, blood pressure, visual acuity, noise exposure, and sleep quality.
Living in an outer space habitat environment results in exposure to sensory monotony and a lack of sunlight, dry air, and constant contact with synthetic materials, which can negatively affect our skin condition. Skin care in the specific habitat can be challenging, but solutions such as glowing self-adhesive pads made of medical silicone or subdermally implanted medical luminous optic fibers can simulate sunlight and provide hydration and nourishment through fluid mixtures containing necessary vitamins, probiotics, adaptogens, meds, and other nutrients.
